Farmer's Survival: A 2D Adventure Game and Farming Simulator
Overview
Farmer’s Survival is a 2D action adventure where you have to both farm crops and kill monsters at the same time. Grow crops to gain buffs to your powers, fight off enemies as your crops grow, and harvest these crops so you can sell them to buy back your freedom. Unlock various regions, where the same crops can grow and evolve differently in each land, providing different powers. Fight a variety of monsters, and the boss of each regions to make this land safer and save your kingdom.
Development and Personal Contribution
This game was developed as a student project for a project-based game development course at the School of Computing in the National University of Singapore, in a team of 6. The project was developed with Unity over a period of 14 weeks.
In the project, I worked as a programmer in the team, in charge of implementing the combat and inventory systems. I also contributed to team brainstorming at the game’s ideation stage.
During the project’s development, I utilised Unity’s editor scripting to create custom inspector tools to streamline the process of data configuration and asset creation, enabling assets for items, skills and ability effects to be created and modified easily without editing any code.
Game Lore
The kingdom is starving. Land with good soil is decreasing year by year. The crops produced are not enough to feed the people. But there is hope. Gaia’s Domain, A land of plenty where crops that take days could grow in hours. However, it is filled with monsters, and the land itself seems to be fighting to keep its crops. You are a knight who made a small mistake, and were forced to go to Gaia’s Domain to harvest the crops to feed the people. You expected a vacation, an easy assignment, but you got an endless cycle of killing and being killed. Will you survive Gaia’s Domain, save the kingdom from starvation, or will you be stuck here in this land of life and death forever.
